Among
the forts of Maratha Kimg Shivaji, Sindhudurg sea fort is
easily accessible from Goddess Mahalaxmi city Kolhapur.
This fort reflects the wisdom of famous Maratha King Shivaji
as the selection of site for the fort was his personal choice.
Construction of sea fort is always hard to implement and when
you visit the this fort surely will realise the difficulties
faced by the builders of the fort.
Lead based foundation was prepared with use of about 4000
mounds of iron and construction work which was started
on November 25, 1664 lasted for three years.
Vijaydurg Fort
This is yet another famous fort of Shivaji, constructed in the
17th century and was used as a tiny naval base. Both of these
forts are excellent spots to view the panoramic natural beauty
and enjoy at calm, cool and picturesque beach.
